When you consider starting any kind of business or if you already have a business running, you notice that having a network helps. By NETWORK I mean other people to which you can turn for advice or business proposal. Those people are not always members of your family or close friends. Most of us know concept of Facebook so I do ot have to explain this in more detail. Furthermore having such 'group' around you also helps when you are not an entrepreneur but you are specialist in employment and you want to switch companies or you are looking for a job.

How to Network

Let be honest we all know what 'network' means, and I am not talking about software. But do we know how to network? Business networking is not the same as 'social' one or more precisely 'Facebook' one. For instance LinkedIn is a social networking site for business people. Most of its users when they send invitations read profiles and think how this person be beneficial for me, and what is most important how I can be beneficial for this person. You see this, the angle in the invitation is how you can be of use for the person you are inviting. You do this is order to convince the invited party to accept the invitation. When I started to use LinkedIn I made mistakes by simply sending invitation without giving reasons why I would like to invite certain individual and how I believe this connection could benefit as both.

Business Hubs and Local Networking Events

Those are ones of my favourite networking places. First of all entrepreneurs are local people who really can help you to start your business career. Those are the people who know the local markets and its clients. Furthermore those events are for people who want to meet other people and who want to exchange their experience. There is another plus, you can actually see the person face-to-face rather than profile pic on the screen. Online networking is fine, but you never know with whom would you actually connect with.

Business Conferences or Professional Bodies Conferences/Seminars

This type of networking is great if you would like to network with people outside of your local area. Furthermore you do not have to travel to different business hubs/chambers of commerce in order to meet people from another part of the country or maybe even outside of the country. Good thing is that by attending such events you do not only meet other people you can also listen to professionals from different fields and learn new things. Plus you are getting new experience, which is always good.

Can Network really help?

If you do networking properly, then yes it can really help. I use my network when I am in need of some information or when I am looking for something in other country and I encounter blockade. The same thing goes other way around, when someone from my network asks me for help, I will help that person.

In my opinion as long as you will be active in your network and not use it only for your own gain then your network will work. It is important to remember that in this relationship you also have to give not only take. You never know how your network can help you in the future so be friendly and helpful in the present.

Conclusion

Networking is crucial aspect in life of everyone not only entrepreneurs. The network that you create around yourself can lend you helpful hand when you need it. Looking for a job can be easier thanks to your network as not all job openings are advertised openly. The same is with business opportunities, small chat with your network can become lucrative contract. I would say that no one should neglect the power of networking. And we all should work towards creation of best network that we can.
